Tooth paste is a very mild abrasive, grinding compounds come in different grits, IE. 300, 600, 800, and so on, depending on the what needs to be accomplished. Some parts need to be stoned and some parts just need a slight buffing, while some things can be accomplished with a small piece of abrasive paper.
